The levels corresponding to the escalation logic (higher to lower) when searching for config entries.

System-wide on Windows, for compatibility with portable git
System = 2
System-wide configuration file, e.g. /etc/gitconfig
XDG = 3
XDG-compatible configuration file, e.g. ~/.config/git/config
Global = 4
User-specific configuration, e.g. ~/.gitconfig
Local = 5
Repository specific config, e.g. $PWD/.git/config
App = 6
Application specific configuration file
Highest = -1
Highest level available
